OBITUARY 
Glenn Howard Adair, 86, of Beaufort, died Saturday, July 10, 2010, after a battle with cancer, at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay, Sea Level.  He was born in Beaufort on February 18, 1924, the youngest son of four boys born to Rose Whitehurst Adair and William "Billy" Edward Adair.  A native of Beaufort, he graduated from Beaufort High School in 1941 and North Carolina State University in 1948 where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an aeronautical option.  During his sophomore year he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps for 3 ½ years.  As a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army he served as a fighter pilot during World War II.  He returned to the university after the war and completed his education.  After graduation, he secured employment at Langley Field, VA (NASA).  In 1947 he married Geraldine Pearson of Jacksonville. 

Eventually missing Beaufort and extended family, he moved back where he remained the rest of his life.  He joined his brother, Julius, in the operation of Adair Funeral Home in Beaufort.  After a few years, Glenn purchased an oil company and sold his interest in the funeral home to his brother.  Additionally, he purchased the Men's Shop, started a tuxedo rental store, was a broker at Ole Town Realty and had rental property.

He served for 10 years as a commissioner of the Town of Beaufort, and one, two-year term as Beaufort's mayor, from 1993-1995.  He also served as Chairman of the Carteret County Democratic Party and served on the Board of Directors of Carteret General Hospital.  In addition, he was a licensed flight instructor at Michael J. Smith Field for 20 years.  He was a past president of the Evening Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellowship Award and attended Ann Street United Methodist Church.  He will be missed.

SERVICES
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at Ann Street United Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Eric N. Lindblade, Jr. officiating and the associate pastor, the Rev. Dr. Anne Walker Sims, assisting.  The committal service with military honors will take place at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Braxton Adair, Julius Emmett Adair and Dr. William Edward Adair.

VISITATION
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
