OBITUARY 
Laurice "Laurie" Ellen Weed Rich, 66, of Atlantic Beach, NC passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Taylors Extended Care Facility in Sea Level, NC after a courageous battle against Alzheimer's Disease. 

Born May 19, 1944 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Dr. and Mrs. Maurice J. Weed, Mrs. Rich graduated from DeKalb High School in DeKalb, Illinois and Northern Iowa University in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  She obtained her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. 

Formerly of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Asheboro, NC, Mrs. Rich enjoyed years of teaching dance to children in both communities.   She had her own dance studio and was a dance educator for Charleston County Schools and Randolph County Schools.  In 2000, she was named North Carolina K-12 Dance Educator of the year by NCAAHPERD.  Mrs. Rich joyfully sang in the choir at Central United Methodist Church in Asheboro, NC where she was a member for many years. 

She is survived by her husband, Samuel Rich of Atlantic Beach, NC; her daughters,
Erin Rich Strickland and her husband Chris, of Spartanburg, SC and Sarah Rich Emmerich and her husband Kit, of Sylva, NC; grandson Samuel Strickland; sister Allison Herrick and her husband Walt.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 2pm at Central United Methodist Church, Asheboro.  The family will receive friends after the service at the church. 

A special thank you is extended to the staff of Taylors Extended Care Facility for the love and compassion with which they cared for Mrs. Rich.
